Below is a step-by-step process on how to design calls to action that effectively get the attention of your target market as well as make them participate. 

1. Use Action-Oriented Language 

The main purpose of any CTA is to compel people to do something. It is extremely important to use matter-strong, clearly tangible and strong verbs. Your audience must know their benefits or what is in it for them. Stressing on the positive outcomes of the intended action makes the CTA seem more attractive. Concentrate on how your offer will benefit the customers and help solve their issues.   Example: “Get our free eBook and double your sales. ”

4. Keep It Short and Sweet

KISS, an abbreviation for Keep It Short and Sweet, is a concept that is also helpful when it comes to naming your products.  CTAs should be clear and specific Not all but most of the time, messages attached to Calls-to-Action should be specific and brief. A study by Unbounce to establish the effect of the length of the call to action observed that shorter ones perform better because they are more comprehensible. Therefore, “Get Started Now” is better than stating” Get Started with Your Free Trial Today. 

5. Use Contrasting Colors

Design is a hugely important factor when it comes to the usability of CTAs. It is also important to apply a color scheme that will cause the CTA button to stand out against the other colors on your page. In its report, HubSpot revealed that contrasting colors can boost conversion rates by up to twenty-one percent. 

6. Position Strategically 

The choice of the location of where to place the CTA is very vital. It should be placed where your viewers will be able to view it easily This was represented best on a billboard that was prominently positioned for the targeted audience to see. Above the fold is a great area, but do not limit your CTAs to this area of the content only.  You may end a blog post with a CTA and put another CTA in the sidebar. 

7. Test Different Variations

Arrange different language contents and make changes to the color, size of the button, and location of the texts to find out which one has the highest click-through rate. 

8. Maintain the Atmosphere of Safety

Give your audience the message that action is safe and in their own best interest. This action can make a user pause and think, and incorporating trust elements such as “No Credit Card Needed” or “100% Privacy” may help. 

9. Map the CTA to the Stage of the Audience in the Buyer’s Journey 

Target your CTAs according to the phase of the funnel into which your target is currently in. For first-time visitors, buttons like “Learn More” or “Download Free Guide” can be used. For those who are nearly ready to make the purchase, use “Buy Now” or “Get a Quote. ” 

10. Use First-Person Language 

The utilization of first-person pronouns is likely to make your CTAs more personal and more catching. The study, which was conducted by Unbounce, noted that using first-person-based CTA such as ‘Start My Free Trial’ converted 90% better than second-person-based CTA.
